Kids' Fishing Day has been a Maramec tradition for nineteen years.  This event has grown from a couple of hundred kids to over sixteen hundred in 2001.  Volunteers from all over bring their expertise to help make Kids' Fishing Day a smashing success.

Contests, prizes, and a lot of trout angling expertise make the day special for a lot of kids and their families.  Individuals and businesses have contributed considerable time, money and materials to make sure no kid goes home empty handed.

Trout fishing is an activity that can bring families together for a positive experience in the outdoors.  Kids' Fishing Day is an opportunity to reach kids and introduce many to their first trout fishing experience.  Activities and booths that emphasize conservation and respect for the environment have been added in the last couple of years but just plain fun activities are also part of the day.  Many future anglers get "hooked on fishing" on Kids' Day!

What is planned for this years event?

*  Activities, Games, Contests and Exhibits. Ruth's Ring Toss, Bass in the Grass  Many more!

*  Critter stamping, headbands, fish print tee shirts.

*  Casting Contest

*  Fly-Fishing Demonstration 

*  Fish Cleaning Demonstration at Fishing Station

*  Free fish mounts for biggest Rainbow Trout

*  Rainbow Trout Restocked All Day Long.                          

*  Drawing: Bicycles, Savings Bonds

*  50 Rod & Reel Fishing Poles given away for tagged fish

*  50 Miscellaneous Prizes for tagged fish

*  Free Hotdogs, Soda and Freeze Pops

*  The First 1500 Kids Will Receive a Special  Sports Bottle

*  The Usual Grab Bag of Freebies! (last year this included candy, sunflower seeds, lures, coloring book etc.)

*  Lots of Fun for Everyone!

*  This Event will be held Rain or Shine!

*  All Activities will end at 5:30 PM

Free tags and goody bags at the Mill Field Shelter will be available May 14 in the evening and all day May 15.

Park store opens 5:30  Fishing begins 6:30 A.M. and ends 8:30 P.M.
